    This is my new P-32...

I was in a LGS yesterday and they had a brand new P-32 with a hard chrome slide for $279 so I picked it up.  I also threw together a pocket holster for it today, pics and the rest of the story, below.

After I got done with the holster I took it apart to clean and lube it for the range trip tomorrow and found this...

A gash/hole in the underside of the slide!

You can see below where it was catching and rubbing.

Here's a photo of a toothpick stuck in the hole!

So, I called the LGS today and I'll be taking it back tomorrow (after I go do all the State's paperwork).  I'm still trying to decide if I want to wait for another HC slide to come in or just take one of the cheaper blued slide ones they have in stock.... any thoughts on that?

Re: This is my new P-32...

Well, I still have the P-32.  I went back to the store and none of the blued slide versions were appreciably better.  They all had holes in the slide.  The hole in the slide where the extractor sits breaks into the underside of the slide, hence the hole.  They said I could keep it or return it, and if I keep it and it causes problems they'll take it back. So I've decided to try it and see how it goes.

To bad about the hole, hope it works ok though.

That hole is normal on P32. Don't worry about it. Just shoot the little pistol and enjoy it. I have a HC P32 too. Gotta love those keltecs.

Re: This is my new P-32...

Thanks for the words of wisdom everyone.  Do the P-32's often need a ramp polishing or any other procedure or do they normally go good right out of the box?

    Thanks,

    Bronson

p.s. Oh, the holster is leather.

Re: This is my new P-32...

You don't need to do anything to that pistol but shoot it and clean it. i put a little gunslick on the slide rails.
it should run like a clock....watch putting hollow points in it. mine get rim lock with corbon hollow points.
i think ball ammo is the best for 32.

Re: This is my new P-32...

    Thanks Toni,

Ummm, what exactly is "rim lock", I've never heard of it before reading about the P-32.  And what is this rim lock kit I keep reading about that I can get from Kel-Tec (is it something worth getting?)

    Thanks,

    Bronson

Re: This is my new P-32...

The rim is larger than the case on .32 acp, if the rim of a round slips behind the one below it you can have your slide hang open failing to feed another round. HP rounds are shorter than FMJ, if there is excessive clearance in the magazine, under recoil the lower rounds can be forced forward, causing rimlock. The KT kit takes up this clearance so HP doesn't have room to do this. In the case of my Seecamp ball ammo and even some HP won't fit in the mag at all to prevent it.

In my opinion, for what it's worth, a rim lock kit in a P32 is a waste as are hps. If you feel you need more firepower and/or hps get a P3AT or LCP.
why mess with a good thing? the P32 is completely reliable with ball ammo.

They are also completely reliable with HP done correctly, so why would you not?

    Thanks for the info PM.

I'm interested in hearing both yours and Toni's (and anybody else) opinions on ball vs. hp ammo.

    Thanks,

    Bronson

Re: This is my new P-32...

Has anybody had any problems with Sellier & Bellot .32 ammo in their P-32?

Natchez has a decent price on them right now so I was wonderin'.

What ammo has been the most reliable for you (FMJ & HP)?

    Thanks,

    Bronson

Re: This is my new P-32...

NOTICE   You will have misfires  if you fail to let trigger fully reset.  It will lite strike . This is cause of many complaints. Its not the pistol 99% of time  Its the shooter.  It took me a box to learn this and to be able to rapid fire  with out the lite strike.

I have 2 mags one set up for ball and one for HP.   It takes a couple min. to in stall the spacer in mag. You can still use  the Winchester blunt nose in HP mag as that round same length as HP. I have experianced rim lock. If happens in real SD you finished.

Now you can do this  Load chamber with HP  load mag with ball except for top round. That HP also

You then have 2 HP and rest ball No worry about rim lock .

I run 11lb wolff spring in mine and never had a problem.   I used to shoot S&B all the time in mine.

Now go to this link and read This is Test useing a P-32  Notice Corbon  HP has Most FPE  135lb. and expands to .435 and was only HP to do this time and time again in test. You will also see that S&B had the same FPE

    http://www.goldenloki.com/ammo/gel/32acp/gel32acp.htm

I belive from a KT target won't be able to tell difference between 32 and 380  This short barrels make this very close.

Thanks MT, once again the knowledge pours forth from your think muscle like the very waters of Niagara Stick out tongue [:P]

What is the advantage of the increased power recoil spring?

    Thanks,
