.45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

I have just a simple question.  I am looking very seriously at the Bersa in 9mm with the 17 round magazine.  However, I've tried to find a .45 around the area to look at and feel.  Not so good.  Seems a bit scarce.

How well do you, that have the Bersa in .45 ACP, like the .45 Bersa?  How well does it shoot to target?  How about feed, feel and fit?

17 rounds is a lot of lead to throw out, but the .45 really is a better (if not best) man stopper in the pistol cartridges, barring the .454 magnums and the like.

    What is YOUR opinion?

Thanks Danny!  I have heard that the 9mm Hi Capacity is an excellent target shooter.  It does have the longer barrel of most of the Bersa models.  How well does the .45 shoot when at targets?  Way worse than the 9mm?

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Hi Vern, My main carry is my Bersa .45UC Fact is its on my hip as I type this. Its the one I choose to carry, so that should say alot. One of my employees just got a T9HC and we were shooting it today. Wow, tuff call between the 2. Its a pretty good gun too. Trigers are almost identical between the two. 45 is a tad smaller pistol with just a bit relt recoil but not bad at all.  If anything was going to sway me it would be the price of ammo. 9mm is several bucks cheepe pre box of range ammo and that will add up quick if your practicing as much as you should with your carry piece. But i'm not trading my 45 in. Gonna suck up the ammo cost here as I really do like it alot.

Hey, wait a minunet.. They are so close in feel, sight, trigger & accuracy that I'm thinking one should have both.. Break in and carry the .45 but practice with the 9.. Yea, thats it, good idea.. Thanks!... Your welcome! Glad you thought of that... Yea me too!   (little voices)

    Hope this helps.. Good Luck!

    Hi Mason!

Sounds like you like your .45 real well!  How is it in the accuracy department?  I was curious about that aspect.

So you think it is close to the T9HC in accuracy?  That would be a nice thing.  I can live with fewer rounds if the accuracy is there.

Actually I shot my .45 better. But in all fairness I have 1000 + rounds through the 45 and a couple of mags through the T9. I remember when I got the 45 just over a year ago I was amazed how well I shot it. Its the gun I use to compare other guns with now.. Meaning if I shoot as good with "new" gun as I do with 45.. Its a keeper. Its kinda like picking Ice cream flavors though.. There is no wrong choice if its what ya like. I think Bersa's in general are just damn good!

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Pistol is only as accurate as person holding and pulling the trigger. Firearm companys make very accurate pistols . Its the shooter that inaccurate.

I have only had one really inaccurate pistol in my life was a Taurus 38spl. 4" barrel  At 50' would not hit a standered  police target, This was tried by several people from a rest as well as standing . One was a past member of Airforce pistol team. . My 1st bad experiance with that brand  other came later.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

I know what you mean, Mason, about running lots of rounds though a gun and getting pretty familiar with it.  I used to handload for my old Ruger Super Blackhawk and would shoot up around 200 to300 round a day and handload at night.  I loved shooting that Ruger and must have put about 6 or 7 thousand rounds per month through her.  Got to where I could hit jack rabbits at around 100+ yards.  Best one was 125 yards one time.  Sitting and holding the Ruger out steadied on my knees.

I was just a bit skeptical about the shorter barrel of the .45 ACP for accuracy over the little longer 9mm high capacity pistol.  Close in, though, it should do an excellent job, just might not have the feet/second you would get out of the old 1911 Colt, or some of the other modern handguns.

Saw a Springfield XD for sale the other day in a gun shop.  Used and was still $450.00.  But, I guess they are quite the pistol.  In .45 ACP caliber to boot.

I have both the TH9UC and TH45UC. Either one is more accurate than I am.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Here's my 2 cents worth. Trip after trip to the range and my BT 45 UC is more accurate than my BT 380. Not by a lot but the targets do tell the tale.

I carry a Beretta 92FS while doing military duty. Personally, I like the stopping power of the 45 ACP.

As for the Springer XD, a friend brought his to the range about a month ago and we both shot the BT 45 UC better. He was impressed with the Bersa and kind of sad that he spent over $550 for the Springer.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Accuracy is important.  I noted at This website  http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/52339-1.html  that the .45 ACP has a barrel of 3.6 inches.  I believe the 9mm Hi Capacity has a barrel length of 4.3"  and 17 rounds.  There has been good things said for both.

Here is a pic of my target from the other day. I've put about 140 rounds through this BT380 since I got it a week ago.  Our vineyard manager is holding the targe for me.  Can you  belive that there are 8 rounds fired !?  One hole is just a little wider than the others, so one bullet cut nearly in the same hole as another round.

If the .45 can do that I would be pleased.  If the 9mm can do that I would be pleased as well.

The 45 should be as accurate as your 380 at that range, with 8 rnds on target.

    Good luck.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Got home tonight witha .45 ACP Bersa  in Stainless Steel!  It is the Bersa Mini Fire Storm model, and has kind of unique grips in the front, kind of like finger holds.  The pistol was $399.99 and I traded it straight across for a .38 Spl. Colt Official Police in 5" barrel, blue I had.  The Colt had never been fired, and was made around 1959 or so.  Even had the original box.

So now to try this hummer out.  Is there much difference between the two?  It also, has the double spring.  I could have gotten .40 S&W just as well.  He had one of those there and was the spitting image of this one, except in 10 shot rather than 7.

It appears that the gun would fire if I don't have a magazine in there.  Unlike my Bersa BT380  if you take out the magazine it won't fire, period.  This one you can *** the hammer back and it will go forward, or you can double action it, even without a magazine.  Unless there is some sort of block....

Hope it turns out well.  The end of the barrel has a large oval opening (not barrel, but the end of the gun where the end of the barrel sits.  I hope that is not a detriment for accuracy.  I took pictures if anyone is interested.  I also polished the slide tonight.  Looks like a mirror finish.  I'll post picture of it sometime as well.

    Later....

    Addendum from shooting:

    1.  Unlike the .380, you cannot chamber a round while it is on safe.  With the Bersa BT380 I could chamber the first round and the hammer would come back down on it's own accord and be on safe.  I kind of liked that.  The .45 FireStorm you cannot work the action with it on safe.

    2. I had a live round in the chamber, dropped the magazine, and took aim and fired.  The FireStorm .45 will fire when there is no magazine in place, but there is live round in the chamber and it is off safe.

    3.  I thought that the .45 has a loaded indicator?  Not this one, other than the fact that you can fell along the side where the ejector rod is located and it is now smoothe, flush, with the slide.

I did a 3 shot test with the old Federal Hydra Shock I had.  One was dearly dead center, and the others were on either side.  This is at night, with flashlight in mouth.  I fired a Cor-Bon all copper bullet into a gallon jug of water and another big jug behind it.  I'll have to dig the bullet out of the ground tomorrow during daylight.  Does have penetration that is for sure.  Does remind me that I am NOT holding onto that little .380 anymore as well.

I could live ok with #2, and #3, but I sure do wish I could put the first round in other than in cocked and ready to go.... just my thoughts after the first shoot.
