Has anyone purchased the PMR-30?

Postby guard dog » Thu Mar 11, 2010 11:15 am

I like the concept of a .22 mag pistol. I'm just wondering if anyone has had a chance to fire one.
I'm basically trying to decide if it's worth owning. Any feed back would be helpful.

GD Ive been on the lookout for one but have not seen the pistol yet. My LGS is quite up on getting new items in and don't have it yet. I dont think they have been released from Kel Tec as of yet.

To date there have been NO PMR 30s manufactured.

There were only the two photo op models created off line. "Supposedly" they will start making them sometime this summer?

Sounds like the mythical Bersa BP9/40. Or the Hi-Point .45acp carbine. Or Bigfoot.

Seems as if that may be a common tactic. Get everyone's attention, get interest built up, then when they actually become available, can't build them fast enough & demand top dollar. ;) Works for electronic gadgets also!

With the relatively recent invention of those amazing 3-dimensional polymer copying machines, making one-off designs became a great technique for engineers. I 'think' that is just what KelTec used to introduce this new model.

Over on KTOG I heard directly from a keltec employee that it's exactly how they prototyped the PMR 30. He even linked to the manufacturer, although I cannot find the link. Amazing machines. Someday their entire production line will be those kind of machines.

I'm on KTOG myself (I own a P3AT too), and they were kinda delightfully surprised that the 3-D machine made photo use prototype actually shoots too.

The device for now is limited in the materials it works with, but we are gettin' mighty close to a Star Trek type universal fabricator -lol - I cannot imagine what the factories of the future will look like.

It's an old idea. I recall reading back in the '80's about the navy looking into this type of thing to create replacement parts for aircraft, etc.. The idea was that it could eliminate all need for a back stock of parts. As you mention, the technology is still materials limited; once they figure out how to use high strength aluminum alloys or steel manufacturing will never be the same.

I read on KTOG that the new assembly line machinery was in-house, but not yet set up. Someone who lives near the KelTec factory posted that a worker there was thinking 'maybe' by June they'd start up production?

With any 'new model' lead time for things, I take release dates with a 20# block (not just a grain) of salt. Those of us still waiting for the Hi Point 4595 carbine can relate - LOL

I read the same thing. IIRC that information is already several months old. Big grains of salt are called for. Setting up a production line ain't easy. They'll get them out when they're ready.

i do machine maintenance and we used to joke that one day the only living things in the factories would be a man and a dog... the man to feed the dog and the dog to make sure the man didnt touch anything.... might not be a joke for much longer they get machines like this going

setting up new machinery in house can be a looooong drawn out process especially if its new tech. training operators waiting for engineers to complete setup programming... then your trial runs etc.... don't hold yer breath
We have now sunk to a depth where the restatement of the obvious is the duty of intelligent men

The 'new' Chicago ordinance/infringements of the 2nd Amendment prohibit more than a 12 round magazine, so no PMR--30s for us serfs of King Richard Daley.
