Bersa Thunder 45 takedown (cannot remove barrel)

I am sending my pistol and barrel back for the third time for the exact same problem. The first time was after 80 rounds fired through a brand new pistol Ultra Compact Pro). CGW returned it and was able to remove the barrel for cleaning for another 5-600 rounds than the barrel would not come out again for cleaning.

Eagle Imports replaced the slide due to another issue. Not sure if they replaced the barrel which came back with the new slide. However, after firing 50 rounds through the new slide, the barrel again would not come out for cleaning once again.

Summarize, 3 barrel failures to remove for cleaning on two different slidesover a seven month period.

I also put my slide/barrel in freezer, no way it would remove due to lack of clearance with the bolt. Barrel/slide is on it's way to Bersa's gunsmith.

Range buddies, design engineer, machine shop plant manager and a machinist all said the same thing, lack of proper heat treating would cause this type of problem. Have to credit Bersa for excellent customer response on this issue. Hope they solve the problem, am getting tired of sending a new gun back for repairs.

Hi gk1,

Hopefully this will be the last send off and it will be fixed. Glad you're getting support. My barrel on my new Pro 45 UC was sort of tight, but giggling it brought it right out. One would think after 500+ fired rounds everything would be okay.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Good Luck & Stay Safe!

Flyfisher
Keep an eye on your front site. It seem that my front site was loose and while I was at the range firing it the front site flew off the slide. When i got home the barrel came out real easy. I think where they crimped the front site on was interfering with the barrel removal. Set it to CGW and they replace the whole slide. Good luck

I had this same problem three times, fixed once by CGW (good for 500 rounds), than Eagle Imports replaced the barrel and slide, result - same problem after 70 more rounds.

Problem was with the receiver. Eagle replaced the pistol which seems ok to date.

No amount of cold soaking, shaking or lubrication as stated on this forum helped solve the problem.

Bersa/Eagle Imports was superb in resolving my problem although it took a while.
